09/2010 Cambridge Snap! Vegetable Project Continues
|

The Gardening Club has been running a 'Sowing and Growing' project, started in March this year.
It has proved to be a lot of fun and the children have developed a strong interest in monitoring how things progress.
The Pre-School children have been active in our Snap! Vegetable Garden, planting, tending and harvesting their own vegetables.
The produce has since been eaten - YUM! - with a few vegetables reserved for other purposes, such as the vegetable printing seen here!

09/2010 Hauxton Snap! Starts a New Term
|
This month, there have been a few changes within the nursery as some of our children prepare to move to the next room. Two of our young Babies have graduated to the Toddler room, and three of the Toddlers have graduated to Tweenies within the Pre-School room. They are all growing up so fast! We have also had new babies as well as other children starting this month, and we would like to welcome them to the Snap! family at Hauxton.
We have had a big clear out of toys that are now past their best or past repairing.
Don't worry Mums and Dads, any particular favourites have been mended and saved!
Staff have been very busy scrutinising catalogues, choosing new equipment for the children, which is always good fun. The children have also been involved with the selection of new toys, an interesting process to watch and manage...
Room by room the whole nursery is also getting a fresh coat of paint. We started with the Pre-School room and the Office and Sleep Area, and have now moved on to the Toddler Eating / Messy-Play room. The entrance and corridor are next on the list, and we aim to have completed the painting in the next few weeks.

18/08/2010 Cambridge Snap! Transport Project - How did we get to school?
|

This week the Pre-School children have spent a lot of time outside on the bench doing a survey on the types of transport that pass our nursery, following a discussion in nursery about how they all got to school. They made two different tally charts - one of the types of transport (cars / bikes / trucks) and another of what colours the different vehicles were.
If you are interested the results are in the nursery and the children will only be too happy to share their findings with you.

06/08/2010Hauxton Snap! Graduation Party 2010.
|

Each year as our oldest children prepare to leave Snap! ready and equipped to meet their next challenge, we celebrate our children's 'coming of age'. To mark the occasion we had a graduation party for our nine school leavers and their parents. This gives the children, parents and staff the opportunity to celebrate their progress during their time at Snap! and of course, sadly, to say goodbye. We invite all the children who attend the nursery to the celebration so that they also have the opportunity to say goodbye to their friends. We started the party with games such as musical statues, musical bumps and pass the parcel. Mr Rainbow, our special guest for the day, then came and did a magic show which all of the children loved! This was followed by a presentation ceremony, where all of the children going to 'big school' collected their medals, scrolls and Garden Club certificate. The party concluded with a party tea and a slice of a beautiful cake made by Snap's Stephanie, which was extremely yummy! Orders in now for staff birthdays!
Goodbye Graduates - we will miss you! Good luck at your new schools!

21/07/2010Hauxton Snap! School Leavers Trip to Milton Maize Maze
|

The children who are leaving the Snap! family to go to big school, went on the Snap! mini bus to the Milton Maize Maze today for a fun-filled day in the sun. The children led the way around the maze, and eventually we all made it out safely! We also had a ride on a tractor, and the children finished off their day on the bouncy castle. A good time was had by all!
'Kenny! At the end of our next staff training day can we have an adult bouncy castle...Pleeeeease?'

07/2010 Cambridge Snap! Pet Update
|
 small.jpg)
A quick update on our nursery pets - Abbey and Nibbles are our pet rats, kept in a glass tank in Pre-School for the children to look after and play with when supervised. They are very cute and friendly - but also very fast!
As well as Abbey and Nibbles we also have two tanks of tropical fish, in the Pre-School and Rainbow Room, which are also very popular with the children. Both the rats and the fish form an important part of the children's development in respect of knowledge and understanding of the world. Regular trips to the pet shop are made when the need arises for 'new friends' to join the 'remaining' fish in the tank!

15/06/2010 Hauxton Snap! Trip to 'Seaside comes to Cambridge'
|

Hauxton Pre-School and Tweenies went to the Folk Museum in Cambridge for 'The Seaside comes to Cambridge' Exhibit today. The trip was fantastic fun, with the children enjoying a Punch and Judy show, dressing up, making old fashioned windmills, digging for treasure in the sand and playing with water. They also had a walk around the museum and made the all-important trip to the shop for something to take home! And the staff had fun too!

06/2010 World Cup Fever reaches Snap! Cambridge
|
 small.jpg)
To celebrate the World Cup Pre-School made flags to represent the nationalities of the children within Pre-School whose countries were competing in the tournament. Children at Snap! 4 Kids Ltd come from all over the world, and many of the countries of origin had qualified for the final stages. As part of the celebrations the children played football and beat the goalie competitions, and also prepared a World Cup themed menu, trying dishes from the relevant countries.
These photos show the sushi prepared and brought to nursery by a parent, and the kimonos she brought in for the children to try on. Not only did they have the beautiful game, they had a beautiful lunch! Many thanks to Liz Yamada.

06/2010Cambridge Snap! Rainbow Room Letters Project
|

The Rainbow Room (ages 2-3) have been enjoying a project on posting letters and the magic of the postal system this month! Each child made a letter to their parents (with some help!), put on the stamp, and posted it to their homes. Parents joined in the fun and sent replies to their child at the nursery. There was great excitement as children waited for the post to arrive each morning, and each would take turns in gathering up the mail and bringing any letters addressed to the children back to their room.
This photo shows one of the Rainbow Room children receiving the reply from her family.
